Rotary District, together with the (SLANA) is launching a campaign - press conference

The size of the drugs market in Sri Lanka is estimated at Rs.6 Bn, while the average per-capita spend on drugs by users is Rs.73,000/- per year, The distribution is widespread with a higher concentration in urban areas. Last weeks haul of 2 billion rupees and last nights arrest of a Heroin kingpin is the challenges Sri Lanka face. Addiction to drugs can take place at any age, but the youth in the OL and A/L classes are seen to be most vulnerable. Despite being aware of the dangers of Drugs, there is a significant rise in youth experimenting and drugs in Sri Lanka. The key triggers are seen to be instant gratification and an escape from life’s pressures, social acceptance, peer pressure etc. No strong initiation of anti-drug abuse campaigns. Hence, the Rotary District, together with the Sri Lanka Anti-Narcotics Association (SLANA) is launching a campaign to create awareness among the general public
